The Nature Conservancy has been working to conserve Nevada’s most ecologically important lands and waters for more than 35 years. Today, we are concentrating our efforts on finding innovative, collaborative solutions to our world’s greatest challenges so that people and nature can thrive. By solving the top threats to nature, we can also improve the lives of millions of people. But we can’t do it alone. Our success depends on the partnerships and commitments of landowners, community members, partner organizations, agencies, business leaders, and donors. We are working to: • Pursue land protection and large-scale restoration of Nevada’s diverse ecological systems. • Use a science-based and solutions-oriented approach to conservation. • Give nature a voice by supporting policies that balance the needs of communities and our environment. • Connect communities with nature to inspire understanding of how it enriches our lives. We’re protecting land and water and building healthy communities by working in five key program areas across Nevada: • Sagebrush Sea: Ensure rangelands continue to sustain our wildlife, economy, and communities by deploying innovative science to guide restoration, developing on-the-ground research to combat fire and other damage, and supporting locally based conservation efforts. • Mojave Desert: Conserve the land, water, and wildlife of the Mojave Desert for the benefit of future and current generations—including 2+ million current Southern Nevada residents—through science, education, and on-the-ground action. • Water Program: Sustain water for Nevada’s working farms and ranches, cities, recreation, and native plants and wildlife by advancing water science, working with water law and policy, and building partnerships. • Eastern Sierra: Protect and restore key places in headwaters forests and lower river floodplains to increase water security (including for Reno and Sparks), reduce catastrophic wildfire risks, and provide access to outdoor places that inspire and enrich our lives. • Climate Action: Increase the resiliency of Nevada’s land and water through restoration and protection of natural systems and raise awareness about and build support for climate solutions.
